NEW La
Marta
Private
Reserve,
located
15
miles
from
Turrialba,
is
a
successful
example
of
private
conservation
efforts
and
a
haven
for
local
plants
and
wildlife.
From
1875
until
1920,
La
Marta
was
a
successful
coffee
farm
and
mill.
After
1920,
however,
changes
in
local
farming
and
coffee
milling
practices
led
to
the
sudden
shutdown
of
the
facilities
and
their
abandonment.
Today
nature
can
be
seen
taking
back
the
site
and
the
surrounding
forest
once
again
dominates
the
landscape.
Our
hike
inside
La
Marta
starts
at
the
old
coffee
mill
and
then
takes
us
deep
into
primary
rainforest.
Total
hike
time
is
three
hours.
Price
per
person:
$85.

starts
from
a

over
the

of

takes
us

able
to
appreciate
the
majestic

The
descent
into
the
