  What is the terrain like?
The terrain varies according to the tour and its rating. Advanced trips feature more technical terrain, more climbing and descending, and are all-day affairs. Intermediate tours offer moderate amounts of climbing and descending, but little or no technical terrain. Easy tours feature mostly paved roads and the occasional dirt road on level gradient.

What equipment should I bring with me?
Lava Tours will supply everything that you need for the tour. However, you may prefer to bring your own pedals and shoes, favorite helmet and gloves, and a hydration pack to make the most out of the tour.

Our newest adventure! We first visit Poás Volcano National Park for a 1 hour hike to visit the world's second largest crater and the Botos lagoon. The bike ride starts in the parking lot and descends through well-maintained roads to the quaint town of Poasito for a chance at seeing the elusive Quetzal bird. The tour then continues downhill from Poasito to the town of Sabana Redonda, where we will take a break before entering La Hilda coffee farm, one of the farms with the highest yields in the world (ask Starbucks!). Inside La Hilda we will ride down to the Poás river and up to Doka Estate farm, where we will be treated to traditional Costa Rican hospitality, a delicious lunch and the coffee tour of the farm, the mill and coffee roasting facilities.
